I’m dealing with a tough customer…me
In a few days AVL clay will have been open for one month, and what a month it has been. Just this week we had a few milestones such as final equipment delivery and starting our multi-week classes. I was thrilled that we filled 85% of our seats for these classes. They say you wear many hats when you have your own business but I would say that the one that fits me best and the one I wear the most even today is that of a member of a studio, not an owner. I want all of the great glazes, the best equipment and all of the unscheduled free time in the studio I can get. I want to catch up with my friends and learn a thing or two from them. With AVL clay I’ve been able to create the studio that I want to go to and so far I love it. Now the challenge of course is still being able to think like a studio owner as well. I think teaching this week has been the best magical blend of being a maker and being the face people see when they walk in the door. Helping people center a little ball of clay for the first time is pretty special as is showing them how to take a plain slab of clay and make it into a vessel. I really hope the students are happy and the members fulfilled. I can say for certain this member / studio owner is very pleased indeed!
